Galatasaray has accused Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho of physically assaulting their coach, Okan Buruk, following a tense Turkish Cup derby.
The incident occurred at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium after the final whistle when both managers were speaking with match officials.
Mourinho allegedly approached Buruk from behind and pinched his nose, causing him to fall and cover his face.
Galatasaray’s vice-president, Metin Ozturk, condemned Mourinho’s actions, stating that he first engaged in a verbal altercation before physically attacking Buruk. Ozturk called on Fenerbahce to take disciplinary action before the Turkish Football Federation intervenes.
Despite the controversy, Buruk downplayed the altercation during his post-match press conference, acknowledging Mourinho's actions but stating he did not wish to escalate the matter.
The match, which ended in a 2-1 victory for Galatasaray with Victor Osimhen scoring both goals, was marred by a stoppage-time brawl.
This resulted in red cards for Fenerbahce’s Mert Yandas and Galatasaray’s Kerem Demirbay and Baris Yilmaz.
The rivalry between Mourinho and Galatasaray has been ongoing, with the club previously accusing him of making racist remarks after a league match earlier this year.
Mourinho was handed a four-match suspension and fined £35,194 for disciplinary infractions, leading him to file a lawsuit against Galatasaray, citing damage to his personal reputation.
