Fenerbahçe manager José Mourinho has been banned for four games and fined £35,194 for comments made after Monday’s goalless Istanbul derby against Galatasaray.
Accused of making racist remarks, Mourinho denied the allegations, with Fenerbahçe stating his comments were taken out of context.
His criticism of Turkish referees led to sanctions from the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), which penalized him for derogatory and offensive statements.
He received a two-match ban and a £2,543 fine for criticizing referees and another two-game suspension with a £32,651 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct. The TFF cited his remarks as divisive and a potential cause of violence.
Fenerbahçe has confirmed they will appeal the sanctions imposed on the 62-year-old Portuguese coach.
