Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers scored a basket with 0.3 seconds left. This shot gave the Pacers a 111-110 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
The Thunder had a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter but lost. This was only their second home loss this postseason. The game felt familiar, as it mirrored their previous defeat at home.
"It sucks," said Thunder forward Jalen Williams. He expressed disappointment about losing the Finals opener. "But we have been here before."
Oklahoma City has one of the youngest rosters in NBA history. They previously bounced back from a tough loss against the Nuggets. In that series, they won Game 2 by 43 points and took the series in seven games.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 38 points, marking his strong Finals debut. "How you lose doesn’t really matter," he said after the game. "Obviously it sucks — last-second shot and energy in the arena."
He acknowledged that they lost Game 1 but emphasized their goal to improve moving forward.
