Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the 2024-25 NBA MVP. This achievement will make him very wealthy.
With his first MVP win, he can sign a historic contract. He is eligible for a five-year, $380 million deal. However, he must wait until the 2026 offseason to sign it.
This contract would pay him $76 million each year. This amount exceeds Shohei Ohtani's average annual value, even with deferrals. Since he split from his agent recently, he won't pay any agent fees.
The Oklahoma City Thunder are ready to offer him this contract. They have shown commitment despite being a small market team.
Gilgeous-Alexander was already set to earn big this summer. His two All-NBA selections made him eligible for a four-year, $293 million extension. This extension equals 30% of the salary cap.
Players can qualify for 35% of the salary cap (the supermax) if they meet certain criteria. Gilgeous-Alexander meets these requirements with his MVP award and All-NBA selections.
He is currently under contract for three more seasons due to an earlier five-year, $172 million extension. Including this contract and his rookie deal, he could earn $576 million in his first 14 years in the league.
