Draymond Green summed up the key to the Warriors' win.
“To win, Steph Curry must be great,” Green said. “And he was.”
Curry scored 31 points in the game. The Warriors built a big lead and won 95-85. He shot 12 of 19 from the field and made 5 of 9 three-pointers.
Curry impressed his teammates with some amazing shots. His performance excited the bench.
Jimmy Butler also had a strong game. He scored 25 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and made six assists with five steals in his playoff debut. Butler joined the Warriors in February after a trade from Miami.
“Curry made incredible plays and carried us offensively,” coach Steve Kerr said.
The seventh-seeded Warriors led by 23 points in the third quarter. However, second-seeded Houston cut it to 69-60 before the fourth quarter.
Game 2 of this best-of-seven series is on Wednesday night in Houston.
Despite their win, the Warriors faced challenges. Houston had a significant advantage on offensive boards at 22-6.
“I think we can play much better,” Green said. “That’s encouraging because I don’t think we played well at all.”
This victory marked Steve Kerr's 100th career playoff win. He is now tied with Larry Brown for sixth-most playoff wins.
