Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid fined $75,000 by the NBA for making obscene gestures during the first half of the team’s 118-114 victory over the Boston Celtics on Wednesday.
This penalty follows a previous suspension in October, when Embiid was banned for three games without pay after shoving Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Marcus Hayes. The game in Boston was eventful for Embiid, who fell during warmups but still started.
He had briefly injured his right ankle when caught in a security rope but returned to the court. Embiid finished with 27 points and nine rebounds in 31 minutes. Despite playing only nine games this season, he averages 21.3 points and 7.0 rebounds. The 76ers face the Utah Jazz on Saturday.
