NPC President congratulates new GOC Executives

Samson Deen, President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC), congratulated Richard Akpokavie. Akpokavie is the new President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC). Deen extended best wishes to him and his executive team.

Akpokavie received 44 votes in the election. He defeated Michael Odum Aggrey, who got 19 votes. This victory marks a turnaround for Akpokavie. Four years ago, he lost by seven votes to Ben Nunoo Mensah.

In other election results, Evans Yeboah was elected as Treasurer of the GOC. He won by a margin of three votes. Mohammed Muniru, General Secretary of Ghana Swimming, became GOC General Secretary. He beat Cycling President Mohammed Sahnoon by three votes.

The new GOC Board includes George Lamptey, Delphina Quaye, Kamal Sulley, Richmond Quarcoo, and George Tettey. Deen stated that it is time to reset and rebrand sports in Ghana. He emphasized the need for discipline and professionalism in sports.

Deen praised the delegates for their choice of leadership. He noted that this reflects a commitment to a united future. He highlighted that this election chose progress over sycophancy and treachery.

Deen also congratulated Secretary General Muniru Kassim and President-Elect Richard Akpokavie. Additionally, he congratulated Evans Yeboah on his election as Treasurer and Vice President of the Ghana Paralympic Committee.

He called for unity within the Olympic Family to build a stronger sporting nation.
