NSA Boss Yaw Ampofo Ankrah commits to Upgrading National Stadia to CAF Standards

The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has made a commitment. He assured stakeholders that his team will maintain national stadia in Ghana. They aim to meet the strict standards set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). This is important to avoid potential sanctions.

Concerns have been rising about Ghana’s sports infrastructure. Recent challenges have drawn attention from local fans and international bodies.

Ankrah's pledge focuses on improving facilities like the Accra Sports Stadium. This stadium has faced criticism in recent years. On March 28, 2025, Ankrah expressed his shock after inspecting it. He described its condition as resembling a “crime scene” due to maintenance issues.

Despite these problems, the NSA prepared the stadium for a World Cup qualifier on March 21, 2025. There were reports that Hearts of Oak wanted to use the stadium for a game against Nations FC. However, the NSA denied permission, stating that major renovations are needed.

Ankrah emphasized the need for proactive measures. "We don't need to wait until CAF or FIFA knocks on our doors," he said. "We need to be proactive, and that is exactly what I want to do." The refurbishment of national stadia is underway to meet CAF standards.
