Newcastle boss Eddie Howe thanked fans for their support. He is recovering in hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia.
Howe, 47, went to the hospital late on Friday. He had felt unwell for several days before that.
On Saturday, Newcastle announced he would miss the match against Manchester United. The game took place at St James' Park on Sunday.
Newcastle won the match 4-1. Assistant manager Jason Tindall said Howe watched from his hospital bed.
Howe expressed gratitude in a club statement. "Thank you to everyone connected with Newcastle United," he said.
He appreciated the warm wishes from fans and the football community. Howe also praised the NHS and hospital staff treating him.
"I'm grateful for the specialist care I'm receiving," he added. He looks forward to returning as soon as possible after recovery.
Tindall and coach Graeme Jones will lead Newcastle's upcoming matches. They face Crystal Palace on April 16 and Aston Villa on April 19.
The club will provide further updates about Howe's condition in due course. They continue to support him and his family during recovery.
Last month, Howe led Newcastle to their first domestic trophy in 70 years. They won the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool at Wembley.
Currently, Newcastle sits fourth in the Premier League table. Howe has been head coach since November 2021, succeeding Steve Bruce.
In recent seasons, Newcastle finished 11th, fourth, and seventh in the league.
Howe has managed 165 matches for Newcastle, winning 84 of them. Under his leadership, they notably beat Paris St-Germain in this season's Champions League group stage but did not advance further.
Before joining Newcastle, Howe had two spells at Bournemouth and a brief stint at Burnley. He has been mentioned as a potential future England manager.
However, he clarified that he was not interviewed by the Football Association for that role. Thomas Tuchel was appointed as England's manager last October.
