Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has faced harsh criticism. His "African-Dubai-Taiwan" campaign slogan is called a major election scam.
Soludo first ran for governor in 2010 with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He won in 2021 under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). He promised to transform Anambra into the "Dubai-Taiwan-Silicon Valley of Africa." However, critics say these promises remain unfulfilled as the November 8 election nears.
Chief Hon. Chukwuebuka Obidike from the All Progressives Congress (APC) condemned Soludo's actions. He accused the governor of misleading voters with his impressive credentials and grand promises.
"Governor Soludo deserves an award for running a deceptive campaign," Obidike said. He claimed that Soludo used his international reputation to create false hope for Anambra's economy.
Obidike noted that security has declined under Soludo's leadership. There has also been little foreign direct investment (FDI) despite his global connections.
He pointed out that Enugu and Abia States have attracted more FDI than Anambra, even with newer governors. "Soludo has worked with 18 international organizations but failed to benefit our state," he added.
The APC chieftain also criticized Soludo's tax policies. He alleged that residents face harassment from revenue agents instead of enjoying a modern tax system as promised during the campaign.
