Former Bechem United coach Bismark Kobi Mensah has lauded Michael Essien, describing him as a selfless mentor who significantly shaped his life and career. Mensah, who played alongside Essien in their youth, highlighted their bond dating back to secondary school and their time with the Black Starlets.
Mensah expressed deep gratitude, revealing that Essien funded his coaching courses in England, describing it as an unparalleled act of generosity.
The former Chelsea star had a decorated playing career, winning two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and a UEFA Champions League title, while earning 58 caps and scoring 9 goals for Ghana.
Since retiring, Essien has transitioned into coaching, earning a UEFA B license and taking on various coaching roles, including a player-coach stint at Sabail FK in Azerbaijan.
