Oaks FC to augment squad ahead of maiden WPL season

Oaks F.C. head coach Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo announced plans for a player selection exercise. This will help find quality players for their squad. The team is preparing for their debut in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League.

Oaks F.C. is the women's team of Hearts of Oak, a Ghana Premier League club. They earned promotion after a strong season. They won 4-1 against Rootz Sistaz in the regional playoff final on May 28, 2025.

In an interview with Sporty FM, Tagoe-Quarcoo discussed strengthening the team. She emphasized that joining Oaks F.C. was about empowering young players. “It was not about proving anything to myself,” she said.

She noted that players still think like they are in Division One League. “I’ll have to push them to change their mindset,” she added. She stressed that humility is essential for the team.

Tagoe-Quarcoo warned that the Women’s Premier League is challenging. “I’ve already told the players it’s not easy,” she stated. The club aims to enhance its squad before the league starts.

They will hold a justify-your-inclusion exercise to find quality additions. Oaks F.C. will compete in the Southern Zone of the league this season. This zone includes defending champions Police Ladies and Hasaacas Ladies, among others.
