Otto Addo knew there would be tough times coaching the Black Stars - Henry Asante Twum

GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has defended the decision to retain Otto Addo as Black Stars head coach despite criticism following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON.

Addo, reappointed in March 2024 on a three-year contract, led Ghana to finish bottom of Group F with three points.

Despite backlash, the GFA has kept him and strengthened the technical team by appointing Winfried Schäfer as a technical advisor.

Asante Twum acknowledged the disappointing results but cited Addo’s report, which blamed tactics, late arrivals, and injuries for the failure.

Desmond Offei has been promoted to assistant coach, replacing Joseph Laumann, while John Paintsil and Fatawu Dauda retain their roles. Kris Perquy and Gregory De Grauwe join as psychologist and video analyst, respectively.
