PSG take huge step towards UCL semi-final with win over Aston Villa

Nuno Mendes scored deep into stoppage time. His goal gave Paris St-Germain a crucial advantage against Aston Villa. This was in the Champions League quarter-final first leg at Parc des Princes.

Aston Villa seemed set to only need one goal to win. They were ready to overturn a one-goal deficit at Villa Park. But Mendes struck in the dying seconds, delivering a devastating blow to Unai Emery's team.

Villa shocked the French champions first. Morgan Rogers scored after 35 minutes, turning in Youri Tielemans' cross from the left. The away fans, including the Prince of Wales, celebrated joyfully.

However, PSG equalized just four minutes later. Desire Doue curled a magnificent shot from 20 yards past Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia troubled Villa all night long. He put PSG ahead four minutes after halftime. Kvaratskhelia turned substitute Axel Disasi and drilled a powerful shot past Martinez.

Martinez made several fine saves during the match. However, he was wrong-footed by Mendes' late goal. This led to a disappointing finale for Emery and his Villa side as PSG celebrated their victory.
