The Parliament of Ghana has approved a budget of GH₵65,899,456. This allocation is for the Ministry of Sports and Recreation. It covers the fiscal year ending December 31, 2025.
Members of Parliament (MPs) discussed concerns about sports infrastructure funding. They noted the lack of dedicated funds for maintenance.
During the session, Minister Kofi Adams acknowledged these concerns. He assured MPs that the Ministry is committed to addressing them.
He announced plans for major renovations at the Accra Sports Stadium. This will happen after Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad.
Reactions to this announcement have been mixed. Stakeholders in sports have long called for facility improvements across the country.
MPs recognized that while the budget supports operational needs, maintenance is critical. They emphasized prioritizing existing sports infrastructure.
Minister Adams stated that renovating the Accra Sports Stadium is just the start. This effort aims to upgrade facilities nationwide and promote sporting events in Ghana.
The budget approval shows Parliament's support for sports development in Ghana. However, MPs urged proactive steps to modernize infrastructure to meet international standards.
