Ghana’s Parliament has officially repealed the controversial Betting Tax, along with levies on gaming, lotteries, and the 1.5% withholding tax on unprocessed gold. This decision follows the passage of the Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025, on March 26.
The Betting Tax, introduced as a 10% levy on gross winnings, faced strong opposition from bettors and operators, who saw it as an unfair burden.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) had promised its repeal during the 2024 campaign, and Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson fulfilled this commitment in the 2025 budget.
Additionally, Parliament has approved the repeal of the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy), which was widely unpopular. The bills now await President John Mahama’s assent, marking a significant shift in the country’s tax policy.
