Ben Nunoo Mensah, the outgoing President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), has issued a warning. He cautioned the government against mixing politics with sports management.
On April 10, 2025, he spoke on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning show. Nunoo Mensah emphasized that politics should not interfere with sports administration. This separation is crucial for growth and international credibility.
He stated, “Some in sports think it must be political. I disagree.” He mentioned his affiliation with the NDC but clarified that it does not affect his role as GOC President. “When I wear that cap, I’m not political,” he said.
Nunoo Mensah highlighted the importance of following the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) charter. This charter promotes political neutrality in sports administration.
He warned that any government trying to politicize sports would harm long-term development. This is especially true for the GOC and national federations.
He urged government officials to let stakeholders manage their own affairs. “Let them run these things; they know what’s best for their federations,” he added.
