Outgoing President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah, has strongly cautioned the government against politicizing sports administration.
Speaking on Joy Prime, Nunoo Mensah stressed that Ghana’s sports development risks stagnation if partisan interests are allowed to infiltrate key institutions like the GOC.
He noted that although he’s affiliated with the NDC at the constituency level, his role as GOC President was strictly apolitical, in line with the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) charter on political neutrality.
“Any government trying to politicize sports should be cautioned,” he warned, emphasizing that long-term growth depends on allowing federations to operate independently.
Citing his contributions to the successful hosting of the 13th African Games, Nunoo Mensah urged authorities to empower sports stakeholders without political interference.
