Praise Be To God- Abdul Rasheed Saminu after setting new national 100 Metre Record

Ghana Sprinter Sets New National Record

Ghana sprinter Abdul Rasheed Saminu has set a new national record. He achieved this at the NCAA East Preliminary Round. Saminu ran a time of 9.86 seconds. This beats the previous record of 9.90 seconds held by Benjamin Azamati since 2022.

Saminu has been in great form this year. Before breaking the national record, he ran 9.87 seconds with wind assistance.

His achievement has earned him a spot in the World Athletics Championship. This event will take place in Tokyo, Japan, in September.

Saminu expressed his joy on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, “Alhamdulillah” which means "Praise Be to God."

Former record holder Benjamin Azamati also secured his spot for the championship. He ran a personal best of 9.98 seconds at the McNabb Sprint Series on May 23.

Both athletes are likely to compete for Ghana in the Men’s 4X100 Relay. Ghana qualified for this event during the World Relays in Guangzhou, China.
