Publish referee review reports: Bechem United boss tells GFA

Chairman of Bechem United, Kingsley Owusu Achau, has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to introduce weekly public reviews of referees’ performances in the Ghana Premier League to promote transparency and restore trust in local officiating.

His call comes in the wake of a controversial 1-1 draw between Bechem United and Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium last Sunday, a match he believes was marred by poor officiating.

Speaking to the *Daily Graphic*, Mr Achau singled out referee Joseph Kwofie, accusing him of biased conduct that, in his view, favoured the Porcupine Warriors.

"The referee was highly biased and bent on ensuring that the Porcupine Warriors secured the maximum points," Mr Achau alleged.

He warned that such perceived injustices not only tarnish the image of the league but also risk inciting violence among aggrieved supporters.

"Now the GFA has put in place mechanisms to curtail hooliganism, which is commendable, but if it is not supported by fair officiating, it will not stand the test of time. A time will come when these measures will break down," he cautioned.

According to the Bechem United boss, even some Kotoko fans expressed their disappointment over the referee’s decisions and sympathized with his team after the game.

"The officials didn’t want Kotoko to drop a point, so the referee had the task of ensuring they got the maximum points," he added.

Mr Achau stressed that the continued lack of accountability among referees poses a major threat to the growth and integrity of the domestic league, urging the GFA to act swiftly to restore confidence in the system.
