Real Madrid has intensified its criticism of La Liga referees, particularly after a controversial decision not to red-card Espanyol's Carlos Romero, who later scored a winning goal against them.
The club has accused refereeing standards of being unfair and called for the resignation of key officials.
In response, the RFEF (Spanish Football Federation) expressed regret over Real Madrid's accusations, emphasizing that while refereeing decisions are open to review, generalized claims undermining their integrity harm the sport.
They called for responsibility and respect towards referees, stressing that such accusations damage the credibility of football as a whole.
This comes amid ongoing investigations into alleged corruption involving payments from Barcelona to the Referees Committee.
