Real Madrid snub Spanish Football Federation meeting amid ongoing referee dispute

Real Madrid is doubling down on its battle against the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) following their controversial defeat to Espanyol.

The club previously sent a statement to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), describing the refereeing system as "discredited" and "corrupted."

Their frustration stems from referee Alejandro Muniz Ruiz and the VAR team's decision not to send off Espanyol defender Carlos Romero for a strong challenge—especially since Romero later scored the winning goal.

Now, Madrid has taken its stance further by boycotting Thursday’s scheduled meeting between La Liga and Segunda División clubs, where refereeing issues were set to be discussed with the CTA.

The RFEF, reportedly caught off guard, had expected Madrid to participate, given that the club initially confirmed attendance weeks ago.

Real Madrid’s decision signals a firm stance, with club president Florentino Pérez and his board refusing to engage with the Federation or the CTA, choosing instead to push their position independently.
