Reduce squad size or I’ll quit - Guardiola to Man City

Pep Guardiola has announced he will leave Manchester City if given a large squad after the summer transfer market.

Several senior players were not included in the squad for Tuesday's 3-1 win against Bournemouth. Guardiola expressed his unhappiness about leaving so many players out.

Abdukodir Khusanov, Savinho, James McAtee, Claudio Echeverri, and Rico Lewis missed the matchday squad. Despite this depth, Guardiola prefers to work with a smaller group.

He stated, "I told the club I don't want a bigger squad. I don’t want to leave five or six players in the freezer. If that happens, I will quit."

Guardiola finds it "impossible for my soul" to have players watching from the stands. He recalled a time when injuries made it hard to select 11 players.

He added, "Next season cannot be like that." The manager emphasized he cannot train 24 players while leaving several at home.

When asked about potential player exits, Guardiola said it's up to the club. He prefers not to have 24 or more fit players.

"If we have injuries, we can use academy players," he noted.

Guardiola believes a big squad is unsustainable. He stressed it's important for "the soul of the team" that players connect better than they did this season.
