The controversy surrounding refereeing decisions in La Liga continues after Real Madrid’s outcry over a non-red card decision in their loss to Espanyol.
Real Madrid sent an open letter to RFEF President Rafael Louzan, demanding reforms and the removal of referees they claim are part of a "corrupt system." .
While the RFEF called the accusations regrettable, La Liga President Javier Tebas pointed out that Real Madrid previously blocked refereeing reforms.
In response, the Referees Committee (CTA) held an emergency meeting, with some referees facing suspension for recent decisions. Talks of a referee strike are emerging due to mounting pressure.
A second meeting is planned to clarify officiating standards. Amid rising tensions, concerns grow over referee safety, as lower-league officials face increasing physical assaults.
