Alex Anning, General Secretary of the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG), has shared concerning news. Referees in Ghana are facing delayed payments.
On Sporty FM, Anning revealed that referees in the Ghana Premier League have only received payment for eight out of 29 match weeks this season. This means there are still 21 weeks of unpaid wages. “We’ve played 29 weeks in the GPL but we have been paid only eight weeks,” he said.
The issue extends beyond the Premier League. Referees officiating in the FA Cup, Division One League, and Women’s League are also owed money.
“All Ghana Premier League referees have been affected by this delay,” Anning stated. He emphasized that all referees from other leagues are also waiting for payments.
This delay has raised serious concerns about referee morale and welfare. Many officials are urging the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to resolve this issue quickly.
The Ghana Premier League is nearing its end, with only a few weeks left in the season. However, these financial challenges could overshadow the competition's final stages.
