Wendell Otoo, founder and manager of Nungua Coldstore, made a strong statement. He called for referees in the Accra Basketball League (ABL) to be accountable. This followed a controversial game against Spintex Knights. Otoo urged league leaders to enforce professional ethics.

The game between Coldstore and Knights was highly anticipated. It ended in an exciting tie at 75 points each. However, Nungua could not play overtime due to player shortages. Many players had fouled out or were injured during the match.

Earlier in the game, all Coldstore bench players were ejected. They left the bench area during an on-court fight. This incident caused several stoppages and some crowd trouble. ABL Director Alex Kukula said the disciplinary committee will review the match report.

Otoo emphasized that accountability is not just for officials. The ABL leadership also shares responsibility for oversight failures. This lack of supervision has discouraged potential investors in Ghanaian basketball.

Teams like Coldstore and Knights have elevated the sport significantly. Their involvement has attracted attention from platforms streaming games live. This reach is greater than anyone expected.

Unfortunately, some officials continue to misbehave without consequences. Their actions violate FIBA regulations and harm league integrity. Joy Ofori, head coach of Nungua Coldstore, understands these challenges well.

As a manager, Otoo recognizes the financial sacrifices needed for success. Basketball struggles for recognition in a football-dominated culture in Ghana. He believes it is crucial to address these issues now.

Restoring integrity and professionalism within Ghanaian basketball is essential, according to Otoo.
