The Right to Dream Academy will represent Ghana at the 2025 Robofest World Championship. This event is scheduled for May 15 to 17 in Michigan, United States.
The Academy's robotics team qualified by winning Ghana’s Unknown Mission Challenge. They outperformed top schools like Prempeh College and Our Lady of Grace Senior High School.
Right to Dream is known for producing excellent student-athletes. Recently, they have expanded their focus to science and technology education.
Their robotics program started in 2013 as an after-school club. It has since become a key part of their academic strategy.
Christian Taylor, Group Head of IT at Right to Dream, said the initiative aims to create more academic pathways. The focus is particularly on STEM disciplines.
The goal is to complement sports strengths with skills needed in today’s workforce. This shift was influenced by trends among alumni who often pursued non-STEM courses abroad.
With Africa expected to have the largest youth population by 2030, there is a growing demand for digital skills. The Academy aims to fill this gap through structured STEM integration.
In 2016, Right to Dream formalized its robotics program with LEGO® Education. Robotics has since been included in the ICT curriculum, ensuring all students receive foundational training.
The Academy has excelled in Ghana’s Robotics Inspired Science Education (RISE) competitions. They are organized by the Ghana Robotics Academy Foundation.
In 2024, Right to Dream won the Bottle Sumo Time Trial category at Robofest World Championship. This marked their first global title in this competition.
As the 2025 championship approaches, the robotics team prepares for international competition again. They aim to showcase technical skills and highlight STEM education's role in future careers.
Taylor emphasized that this program is an investment in long-term development. It equips students with tools and mindsets for meaningful contributions beyond sports.
The team will leave for Michigan in mid-May, representing Ghana on a global stage of innovation and problem-solving.
