Roma are set to file an official complaint to UEFA over referee Tobias Stieler’s performance during their 1-1 draw with FC Porto in the Europa League play-off.
Coach Claudio Ranieri was furious with the officiating, instructing his players not to shake hands with the referees and criticizing the decisions post-match.
Stieler issued eight yellow cards to Roma, sent off Bryan Cristante and a staff member, while Porto received only three bookings.
Roma also claimed they were denied a pre-planned substitution before Porto’s equalizer. Ranieri accused Stieler of favoring Porto under pressure from the home crowd.
Roma’s owners, the Friedkins, support Ranieri’s stance and plan to submit a formal protest to UEFA in the coming days.
