Antonio Rudiger, a defender for Real Madrid, has received a six-match ban. This punishment comes after he threw an object at the referee during the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona.
Rudiger and teammate Lucas Vazquez were both shown red cards in Seville. They reacted angrily to a foul called against Kylian Mbappe just before the match ended.
Referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea reported that Rudiger was dismissed for "throwing an object from the technical area." Reports indicate that he threw an ice cube at the official.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) stated that Rudiger's suspension was due to "minor violence against the referees."
Additionally, the RFEF revoked Jude Bellingham's red card for dissent after the match. The referee noted Bellingham approached him aggressively but video evidence disproved this claim.
Rudiger will miss the last five games of La Liga this season. He will also be banned for the first game of the 2025-26 season.
However, his ban may not have a significant impact. Rudiger recently underwent knee surgery and is likely out for the rest of this season.
