Sharubutu Ramadan Cup 2025: Nima, Sabon Zongo to open 10th edition on Saturday

The 10th edition of the Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Cup kicks off this Saturday. The opening match features former champions Nima and Sabon Zongo. It will take place at Kawokudi Park in Accra.

This tournament honors the National Chief Imam. For nine years, it has united Zongo communities after Ramadan for a gala competition.

This year is special, with only 15 teams competing. This is fewer than the usual 32 teams from six regions. The participating teams include former champions and top performers from past editions.

At the launch event in Accra, defending champions Ashaiman received a bye to the quarter-finals. Former champions Madina, Nima, Mamobi, and Kasoa were seeded in the first round draw.

In an interesting matchup, Nima faces Sabon Zongo in the opening fixture. Traditionally held at Fadama Park, this year's tournament moves to Kawokudi Park due to renovations at Fadama.

The Sharubutu Ramadan Cup will attract football stakeholders and key figures from the Zongo community. This includes the National Chief Imam himself.
