Sinner and Djokovic win on day of upsets and drama

Day five at the French Open featured thrilling matches, upsets, and an emotional farewell. However, Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic continued their strong performances.

World number one Sinner efficiently ended Richard Gasquet's career. He won 6-3, 6-0, 6-4 to advance to the third round. This victory marked Sinner's 63rd consecutive win against players ranked outside the top 20.

Gasquet made his French Open debut in 2002. After the match, he addressed the crowd and received a commemorative trophy. "You hope this day never comes," Gasquet said. "But today is it."

Djokovic faced a blister but still secured a straight-set win over Corentin Moutet. The score was 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1). Djokovic is a three-time champion at Roland Garros and recently won his 100th ATP singles title.

He needed a medical timeout for his blister during a tight third set. Despite this issue, he saved a set point and clinched victory. "Things got complicated with the blister," Djokovic noted but added he would recover fine.

Next, he will face Filip Misolic after Misolic defeated Denis Shapovalov in five sets. Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev came back from losing the first set to beat Jesper de Jong.

In other matches, Alex De Minaur and Jakub Mensik both lost after winning their first two sets. De Minaur fell to Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan with scores of 2-6, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, and 6-2.

Bublik admitted he thought about losing before making a comeback. "I was checking tickets home already," he said about his mindset during the match.

Bublik will now play Portugal's Henrique Rocha who upset Mensik in five sets. Rocha had never won a main-draw match at a major before this tournament.

French player Arthur Fils faced Spain's Jaime Munar in an intense four-and-a-half-hour match. Fils struggled with a back injury but managed to rally back for victory.

After taking painkillers and receiving support from fans, Fils won with scores of 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 0-6, and 6-4. He celebrated by ripping off his shirt on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

"This is my best match of all time," Fils declared after his win. He acknowledged that luck played a role but felt it was one of his best five-set matches ever.
