Sir Jim Ratcliffe has increased his stake in Manchester United, acquiring an additional 1.24% for £79 million, bringing his total shareholding to 28.94%. This follows his December agreement to buy 27.7% of the club for £1.2 billion.
The shares were transferred from Ratcliffe to his INEOS company, which he heads. Although Ratcliffe has made substantial cuts, including laying off over 250 employees, the new funds will not be used in the January transfer window.
Manchester United has announced losses exceeding £300 million over the last three years. Ratcliffe has faced criticism, notably for raising ticket prices, neglecting the women's team, and making controversial management decisions.
