Steve Smith has retired from one-day international (ODI) cricket following Australia's semi-final exit from the Champions Trophy.

The 35-year-old played 170 ODIs, scoring 5,800 runs at an average of 43.28, with 12 centuries.

He won the ODI World Cup twice, in 2015 and 2023, and captained Australia in his final match against India.

Smith remains available for Test and T20 cricket, prioritizing the World Test Championship and upcoming series.

He played a crucial role in Australia’s World Cup victories, including hitting the winning boundary in 2015.

His highest ODI score of 164 came against New Zealand in 2016. Smith expressed gratitude for his teammates and believes now is the right time to step aside as Australia prepares for the 2027 World Cup.
