Dominican baseball star Juan Soto is set to sign a record-breaking $765 million, 15-year contract with the New York Mets, the largest deal in sports history.
The contract includes a $75 million signing bonus, with no deferred payments, and could potentially reach $800 million.
The agreement surpasses Shohei Ohtani's $700 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, which included deferred payments. Soto, 26, was a free agent after helping the New York Yankees reach the 2024 World Series, where they lost to the LA Dodgers. The Yankees’ $760 million offer over 16 years was outbid by the Mets.
Soto's stellar 2024 season included a .288 batting average, 41 home runs, and 109 RBIs. A former Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres player, Soto won the 2019 World Series with the Nationals.
