Former England manager Gareth Southgate has been awarded a knighthood in the King's New Year Honours list.
Southgate, 54, resigned in July after guiding England to their first European Championship final on foreign soil, where they lost 2-1 to Spain in Euro 2024. He managed England for eight years, taking the team to four major tournaments, including the 2018 World Cup semi-finals and the 2020 and 2024 European Championship finals.
With 102 matches under his belt, Southgate won 61, scoring 223 goals, and set a record with 14 wins at major tournaments. He is the fourth England manager to be knighted, following Walter Winterbottom, Alf Ramsey, and Bobby Robson. FA chair Debbie Hewitt praised his leadership and dedication.
