Real Madrid secured a 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Brahim Diaz playing a decisive role.
Before the match, Atletico coach Diego Simeone had downplayed Brahim’s chances of starting, favoring Camavinga or Modric.
However, Brahim was given the nod and scored the winning goal, directly confronting Simeone in his celebration, shouting, "Speak now!" in response to the coach’s earlier comments.
Simeone later dismissed the exchange, saying he "didn't see anything." With the second leg at the Metropolitano next week, Real Madrid must avoid defeat to advance, possibly facing Arsenal or PSV in the quarter-finals.
The key question remains whether Brahim will retain his place or Jude Bellingham will return.
