Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, condemned recent violence at the Ampain AAK II Sports Arena. He criticized certain club owners and managers as “clueless about football.”
The incident occurred during a Ghana Premier League Matchweek 33 fixture over the weekend. Chaos erupted after Nations FC disputed a second questionable penalty awarded to the home team. This adds to ongoing violence in Ghana’s lower-tier football competitions.
Analysts point to poor officiating, inadequate crowd control, and a win-at-all-costs mentality as contributing factors. Minister Adams stated he was informed about the incident but lacked full details. Investigations are ongoing, and he expressed disappointment over recurring violent situations.
Adams stressed that club management should not be left to those seeking short-term gain or prestige. He believes football development suffers when administrators lack technical knowledge and long-term vision.
He said, “We must educate club owners before addressing fans.” Some owners seem unprepared beyond just owning clubs. Adams emphasized the need to address these issues before discussing fans, officials, or match commissioners.
Meanwhile, the GFA has announced it is investigating the match disruption.
