Ghana's Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, shared a condolence message. This was in response to the sudden death of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju.
Gabriel passed away after an eight-round light-heavyweight match. He fought against Ghanaian boxer Jon Mbanugu at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
The statement expressed deep sadness. It extended sympathies to Gabriel's family, friends, and the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBC). The global boxing community was also included in these condolences.
The Ministry is waiting for an official medical report on the cause of death. They pledged full cooperation with the Ghana Boxing Authority for an investigation. Their goal is to enhance athlete safety measures.
The Minister concluded by wishing peace for Gabriel’s soul. He called for unity in supporting those affected by this tragedy.
