The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has adopted the Amarkai Amartefio Committee's report.
On Friday, May 23, the Ministry released a statement. It said, "The Minister has engaged the National Sports Authority on the report." Together, they accepted the committee's findings and recommendations. These recommendations will be implemented soon. The public can expect various activities and programs to follow.
The committee submitted its report on May 19, 2025. This was about the death of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju in April.
Ambassador Major (RTD) Amarkai Amarteifio chaired the committee. The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams (MP), inaugurated it on April 8, 2025. This followed an incident during a boxing match on March 29 at Bukom Boxing Arena. Olanrewaju collapsed during Fight Night 15 in Accra on March 9, 2025.
During its investigation, the committee interviewed eyewitnesses and medical personnel. They also spoke with sporting officials and reviewed relevant footage and documents.
According to the Ministry, the committee aimed to determine what caused the boxer's death. They sought to identify gaps in safety protocols or medical responses.
However, the Ministry did not disclose any specific recommendations from the committee's report.
