Stokes blow compounds England slide towards defeat

England’s hopes of a comeback in the third Test against New Zealand were dampened by Ben Stokes’ recurring hamstring injury.

Stokes, bowling on Day 3, pulled up mid-delivery, clutching his left hamstring, the same one that sidelined him for four Tests in August.

He was unable to return for the rest of New Zealand's second innings. Before the injury, New Zealand, led by Kane Williamson's 156, had built a dominant lead of 453, setting England a daunting target of 658.

Despite rain delays, New Zealand extended their advantage, and England's chase began with two quick dismissals.

Stokes’ injury raises concerns over his future as a Test bowler, especially given his heavy workload. England's captain will undergo further assessment.
