TVET is not just acquiring certificate, but rather empowering individuals with practical skills – McDan

Dr. Daniel McKorley, CEO of McDan Group, spoke about TVET. He believes it should empower individuals with practical skills for industry needs.

He noted that many young graduates lack entrepreneurial skills in their fields.

Dr. McKorley spoke at the Chancellor's public lecture at Kumasi Technical University (KsTU). He also launched a history book for the university’s 70th anniversary.

He emphasized that Africa's future relies on skilled artisans and engineers. These individuals must be competitive on a global scale.

"Kumasi Technical University has contributed significantly to this change," he said. "However, more work is needed." He suggested moving to a larger campus of about 1,000 acres.

Despite seven decades of technical education, KsTU faces challenges in fulfilling its mission. Dr. McKorley called on the private sector to collaborate with technical universities for real-world exposure.

"I have seen industries struggle to find skilled workers," he stated. "I am partnering with KsTU to create job opportunities."

Chancellor Dr. Kwame Addo Kufour highlighted the need for close ties between KsTU and local industries like Suame Magazine and Kantanka Industries.

"Since becoming Chancellor, we have worked hard to involve industry in our activities," he said.

Dr. Addo Kufour added that the history book launch reflects the school’s past and inspires future students.

"I congratulate everyone who helped make this book possible," he concluded.
