Black Stars head coach Otto Addo discussed Ghana's success. He believes it helps attract foreign-born players of Ghanaian descent.
Addo spoke during a pre-game press conference. Ghana is set to play Trinidad and Tobago in the Unity Cup. This match will take place at the G-Tech Community Centre.
Ghana lost 2-1 to Nigeria in their opening game. Jamaica beat Trinidad and Tobago 3-2, setting up the final. Both games occurred on Saturday, May 31.
When asked about competing teams with foreign players, Addo responded. He highlighted Ghana's efforts to recruit players like Antoine Semenyo and Inaki Williams. Both were born in England and Spain, respectively.
“We convinced players like Antoine Semenyo, Tariq Lamptey, Inaki Williams,” he said. “We have good experience with that.”
He added that they are interested in any player of Ghanaian descent. They maintain a large database of potential recruits.
“We watch their matches, especially those in higher leagues,” he explained. “We try to contact them to see if they are available.”
Addo noted they have already found some promising players but continue searching for more talent. He believes success will make Ghana more appealing to these athletes.
