The people in Brazil are like Ghanaians – Depay defends move to Corinthians

Memphis Depay has revealed why he chose to join Brazil's Corinthians on a two-year deal in September.

In an interview with Flashscore, he explained that the decision was influenced by the cultural similarities between Brazil and Ghana, a country he supports through various projects.

“The people in Brazil are like Ghana, very enthusiastic, energized people,” he said.

Depay, who previously played for Atletico Madrid, also emphasized the challenge of playing for a struggling Corinthians, sitting 17th in the league.

“I needed to do something different. I like a challenge,” he stated. Depay dismissed retirement rumors, saying, “I’m 30. What are you talking about retiring? I’m young.”
