This is the start of an era- Real Madrid New Manager Xabi Alonso declares

Xabi Alonso was officially unveiled as Real Madrid's new manager.

The 43-year-old signed a three-year deal on Sunday. He replaces Carlo Ancelotti, who will manage Brazil's national team.

Real Madrid had a disappointing season. They lost the La Liga title to Barcelona. They also fell to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey and Spanish Supercopa finals. Additionally, they were eliminated by Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals.

During his speech at Valdebebas training ground, Alonso said, “It’s the start of an era.” He expressed excitement for fans to begin this new chapter. “It’s a special day,” he added. “I am very happy to be here, in what I feel is my home.”

Alonso previously won a league and cup double with Bayer Leverkusen in 2023-24. He explained his return to Madrid after leaving as a player 11 years ago.

He paid tribute to Ancelotti, who won three Champions Leagues and two La Liga titles with Madrid. Alonso stated, “Carlo was my coach and a huge influence.” He acknowledged that without Ancelotti's guidance, he might not be here today.

“I take over and carry on his legacy with great honour and pride,” Alonso said.

His tenure officially begins on June 1, ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup next month.
