Thomas Partey has reportedly declined the Black Stars deputy captaincy to focus solely on his performance for Ghana.
The 31-year-old informed Coach Otto Addo and the Ghana Football Association of his decision, choosing to serve the team without an official leadership title.
Partey, a key figure for both Arsenal and Ghana, may have made this choice to avoid additional responsibilities.
Fenerbahçe defender Alexander Djiku is now speculated to take the role, further solidifying his leadership within the squad.
Despite stepping away from the deputy captaincy, Partey remains crucial to Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. The Black Stars will face Chad at home on March 17 before traveling to Morocco to play Madagascar.
