Thomas Partey scores for Arsenal in draw with Brentford

Thomas Partey scored for Arsenal in their 1-1 draw against Brentford. The result leaves Arsenal, in second place, 10 points behind Liverpool.

Mikel Arteta made five changes from the team that beat Real Madrid 3-0 midweek. The match at Emirates Stadium lacked quality from the start.

The first shot on target came in the 20th minute. Kristoffer Ajer's attempt was saved by David Raya after Bryan Mbeumo assisted him.

Arsenal thought they had scored soon after. Kieran Tierney headed in Ethan Nwaneri's cross, but VAR ruled him offside.

Leandro Trossard had Arsenal's first shot on target just before half-time. His low drive was pushed away by Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken.

Thomas Partey opened the scoring in the 61st minute. Declan Rice carried the ball from deep and set up Partey, who shot past Flekken.

Brentford equalised 13 minutes later. Nathan Collins headed back across the penalty area for Wissa to hook it into the net from six yards out.

Liverpool can extend their lead to 13 points when they host West Ham on Sunday at 14:00 BST. Meanwhile, Arsenal will focus on their Champions League second leg in Madrid on Wednesday.
