Two-time Grand Slam doubles champion Max Purcell has been provisionally suspended after admitting to breaching anti-doping rules.
The 26-year-old Australian voluntarily accepted the suspension after revealing he "unknowingly received" an intravenous infusion of vitamins exceeding the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) 100ml limit.
Purcell, who won Wimbledon in 2022, and the US Open this year, expressed his regret: "This news was devastating to me because I pride myself on being an athlete who always makes sure everything is WADA safe."
He reported the incident to the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) after receiving medical records last week. Purcell's suspension began on December 12, and it could affect his participation in the 2024 Australian Open.
