U-20 AFCON: Ghana held to 1-1 draw by DR Congo

Ghana’s Black Satellites drew 1-1 with DR Congo in their first match. This was part of Group C at the TotalEnergies CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The game took place at the New Suez Stadium under floodlights. DR Congo shocked Ghana with a goal from Samuel Ntanda in the 16th minute. He scored with a header from Messy Manitu’s cross.

Ghana quickly responded, equalizing through Musibau Aziz eight minutes later. Despite pressure in the second half, they could not find a winning goal.

The match was competitive and scrappy. Both teams aimed to establish early dominance. Earlier, Senegal had drawn 1-1 against the Central African Republic.

Ntanda's goal came after he rose high to meet a cross. This gave DR Congo an early advantage and showcased their strong start.

Ghana regrouped and equalized when Emmanuel Mensah crossed for Aziz. His low finish left the goalkeeper unable to react.

After that, Ghana began to control the game better. Abdul Sulemana and Andrews Adjabeng worked well together on the flanks. Aziz almost scored again before halftime, but his header was saved brilliantly.

The second half turned into a tense battle. DR Congo made substitutions that helped them regain control of the game. Ghana brought on Jerry Afriyie to boost their attack.

The Black Satellites had several shots go off target, including one late header from Afriyie. Although Ghana had more possession and chances, DR Congo defended well under pressure.

Both teams made late substitutions, but neither could score again. The match ended in a draw, leaving Group C open after matchday one with all four teams tied on one point.
