Real Madrid secured a 3-0 victory over Brest, with Rodrygo scoring twice and Jude Bellingham adding another.
However, due to results elsewhere, Madrid finished 11th in their Champions League group, missing out on an automatic spot in the round of 16.
As a result, they will have to play in the knockout play-offs against either Manchester City or Celtic.
Madrid’s slow start to the campaign, including losses in three of their first six matches, ultimately cost them a higher finish.
Despite their recent strong form, they will now face additional challenges to defend their title. Brest, in their first Champions League campaign, also advances to the play-offs.
