Uganda: Muslims in Kabale Urge Parliament to Conduct Thorough Research Before Passing Policies

Muslim leaders in Kabale have urged the Ugandan Parliament to research policies thoroughly. This call was made during Eid prayers at Kirigyeme Mosque in Kabale Municipality.

One concerning policy is the proposal for the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to collect school fees. Another issue is restrictions on civil servants, especially doctors, from opening private hospitals.

Hajji Issa Tindyebwa, Chairman of the Kabale Muslim District Council, spoke to the congregation. He warned that rushing policies without proper research can harm communities.

He pointed to the removal of National Teachers' Colleges as an example. This decision has created a significant gap in education.

Tindyebwa said, "Our message to Parliament is to conduct thorough research before passing laws." He expressed concern about URA collecting school fees, stating it could cause hardships for Ugandans.

He noted that since phasing out National Teachers' Colleges, there has been a shortage of primary school teachers in government schools.

"We do not want similar issues from hastily enacted laws," he added. Sheikh Kasimu Kamugisha, Deputy Resident City Commissioner for Nakawa, criticized Members of Parliament. He said they must consult their constituents before supporting new policies.
